She wanted to propose to her girlfriend, Nirvana, on the eve of her 30th birthday, during their visit to Trinidad. The location she had her heart set on? The breathtaking La Vigie lookout in Paramin, where the sky meets the sea in a quiet, golden embrace. Views from La Vigie Lookout are rivalled only by those from The Northdeck.
It was a tight timeline. Paperwork had to be submitted, approvals had to come through — and up until four days before the proposal, nothing was confirmed. But Diana’s determination was contagious. We prepared as if we had the green light, because in our hearts, there was no plan B.
Preparing for the Big Moment: Behind the Scenes in Paramin
Proposal day arrived, and with it, the kind of excitement that only comes when you’re about to help someone change their forever. We got to Paramin early and began setting up — the golden circle arch Diana chose stood proudly against the horizon, framed by a sunflower-lined pathway. Hidden cold spark machines were set, ready to light up the moment Nirvana said “yes.”
When Rain Meets Resolve: Weathering the Unexpected at La Vigie Lookout
Then came the rain. Thankfully not a storm, but enough to make us pause, to test our resolve. The wind tugged at the arch, and we stood together holding it steady, rain dripping from our hair and hands. When it cleared, we assessed the damage…minimal, thank goodness! We needed to re-secure the arch but our roll of nylon was done. And that’s when nearby construction workers, seeing our soaked, determined faces, came to our rescue with rope.
We secured the arch, just in time.

Diana and Nirvana arrived as the sun dipped low, casting the whole scene in a warm, golden glow. Diana led Nirvana down the sunflower path, voice soft but sure, asking the question that would change their lives. Cold sparks flared as Nirvana said “yes,” and in that moment, it felt like the world itself was celebrating with them. Strangers who had gathered nearby, some waiting since setup, cheered. The sky, as if holding its breath, stayed clear long enough for their love story to be sealed beneath that sunset.
